While EU officials speak of shared "democratic values" before the cameras, a different, far harsher logic is beginning to dominate behind the closed doors of European offices.
A column serving as such a cold shower for both Ukrainian and Western society was published in The Wall Street Journal by Alexander Rodnyansky Jr. (son of producer Alexander Rodnyansky).
In a controversial op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Alexander Rodnyansky suggests that Europe views Ukraine as a military "shield" rather than a future partner, ignoring signs of political and institutional decay in Kyiv. While the text has been seized upon by Russian propaganda, its real impact is felt within Ukraine, where it sparks fears of being abandoned after the war.
The publication appears to be a calculated move aimed at Western elites, positioning a "new alternative" to the current leadership, yet it risks deepening national despair and eroding unity at a critical moment in the conflict.
