Scythes Against Imperial Cannons: Wrocław Reflections on the Racławice Panorama

Standing in the center of the modern rotunda complex in Wrocław, you instantly lose all sense of the boundary between reality and the canvas of Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak. Light, three-dimensional physical foreground elements that seamlessly blend into brushstrokes, and sheer scale. Visually and architecturally, the Racławice Panorama feels even more grandiose than the famous panoramas of the Battle of Borodino in Moscow or the Siege of Sevastopol that I have seen before.
