How Rivne Zoo became a humanitarian hub and how it helped to preserve the collections of zoos in Ukraine

Not every regional center can boast of its own zoo. But Rivne has a zoo! And it is very popular among Rivne residents and visitors. Judge for yourself! The population of Rivne is 230 thousand people, and the number of visitors to the zoo exceeds 200 thousand per year. This is a fantastic figure!
Today, the zoo has almost 200 species of animals from all continents except Antarctica. This is the only zoo in Ukraine where you can see a polar wolf brought from the Czech Republic, as well as 24 species of animals listed in the International Red Book and the Red Book of Ukraine.
How did the full-scale invasion change the activities of the Rivne zoo? How did it become a humanitarian hub that sent food and medicine provided by the European Association of Zoos to other zoos in Ukraine? How did the Rivne Zoo help the Kharkiv State Zoo and the Feldman Ecopark near Kharkiv in the first days of the war?
Gromada learned about this during a press tour to Rivne region organized by the Kharkiv Press Club, which was attended by journalists from 11 regions of Ukraine.
