July 13 is Myroslav Skoryk's birthday. He would have turned 87 years old.
He is a Hero of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, professor, academician of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine.
However, he considered himself primarily a composer.
His creative heritage includes more than 300 works. What is unique is that he worked in almost all musical genres that exist: opera, ballet, concert, chamber, song and choral, in the spiritual and pop spheres, in the plane of theater and film music, transcriptions of world classics and famous hits in pop-jazz and academic styles.
He returned to concert circulation several dozen undeservedly forgotten masterpieces of world and Ukrainian music of past eras. He is a brilliant musicologist, a wonderful pianist and conductor.
His music is the genetic code of Ukrainians.
He was inspired to create world-class music with a unique Ukrainian flavor, the spirit of freedom and the desire for liberty.
Myroslav Skoryk is called a genius of our time. What was he like among his friends and colleagues, as a person and an artist?
This is the subject of an interview with Liubov Kyianovska, a Ukrainian musicologist, doctor of art history, professor, author of three books about Myroslav Skoryk, with whom she had a long-standing friendship for many years. Both personal and family. Memories of the Maestro.
