Mountains, the sound of river water, and the quiet tapping of keys over a cup of Carpathian tea — this is roughly what an ideal scene looks like when thinking about the Kharkiv Press Club residency in the Carpathians.
But behind this picturesque picture lies something much greater than just a change of location or a countryside "workout." This is a story about how people who are used to processing tons of others' pain, news, and continuous tension every day were given the most valuable thing for a few days — the opportunity to breathe out and feel safe.
"Only mountains can be better than mountains you haven't been to yet..." Finding yourself in the Carpathians for the first time, you immediately realize the truth of these words.
The deafening, unaccustomed silence without air-raid alert notifications and siren sounds is the first impression that catches you off guard. It is an almost forgotten, yet so longed-for feeling of total peace and tranquility.
The Kharkiv Press Club organized a creative residency for journalists of the frontline network of local media "Gromada Group" in the picturesque Carpathian village of Pistyn, at the cozy "Pidkova" guesthouse.
