AN-74: A Grandiose Russian Scam Involving the Kharkiv-made Aircraft. Details

As is well known, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Antonov State Enterprise, has exposed a large-scale fraud perpetrated by Russians in the Latin American aviation market. Russian entities, operating through a front company in the UAE, attempted to sell an An-74 aircraft to the Government of Peru by providing forged certificates and documents in the name of the Ukrainian manufacturer.
As a result of this exposure, the Ministry of the Interior of Peru officially canceled a $63 million tender for the purchase of an An-74 military transport aircraft.
Thanks to the swift intervention of the Ukrainian side, Peru avoided significant financial losses and the acquisition of aviation equipment of dubious origin that could not have been officially serviced. The Russian scam to sell Ukrainian-made aircraft to Peru using forged documents has failed.
It is worth noting that An-74 military transport aircraft were manufactured in Ukraine at the Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company (KSAMC).
What makes this aircraft unique? How many An-74s were produced in total? When was the last An-74 released in Kharkiv? And most importantly, is it possible to revive aircraft manufacturing in Ukraine after the war?
All these topics are explored in a conversation with Oleksandr Kryvokon, who twice headed the Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company as General Director, served as President of the Antonov State Enterprise, and held positions as Deputy General Director for Civilian Production at both the Yuzhmash (Southern Machine-Building Plant) and the Malyshev Factory.
