The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Russia's long-range aviation commander Sergei Kobylash and Black Sea Fleet commander Viktor Sokolov.

- The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates the most serious crimes in the world - genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression," Oleh Mykhalchuk, a PhD in law, commented for Gromada. - But the ICC does not pass judgements in absentia. That is, the accused must be in person in The Hague. Russia, which has not ratified the Rome Statute, which formed the basis of the ICC, is not obliged to assist the international court.

Ukraine reports thousands of war crimes that Russia may have committed in its invasion. Will the International Criminal Court be able to address even a tiny fraction of these cases? Will the war criminals be held accountable for what they have done?

I also wonder how many more arrest warrants have been issued for Russian war criminals, which have so far been classified under ICC rules?
