For four years now, Ukraine has been operating the Medical Guarantees Program, which provides patients with free medical services guaranteed by the state. Special attention in this program is paid to free care for cancer patients. Today there are more than 1 million such people in Ukraine.
Treatment of cancer is very expensive, so the state guarantees a large package of free medical care for patients. This includes radio- and chemotherapy, surgeries, diagnostics, psychological assistance, and medicines, which are procured at public expense.
But what happens in reality? Do patients always receive the treatment guaranteed by the state free of charge? What problems do they most often face in medical institutions?
To find out, the NGO Athena. Women Against Cancer conducted a study that lasted from 2020, in which more than 2,000 patients with cancer were interviewed.
What did the results of the study show? What problems were identified?
