— You see, when the regime falls, thousands of American investors, bloggers, and democracy consultants will rush in here.
— And?
— I want to manage to sail out to the middle of the ocean just to have half an hour of silence before they start explaining to me how to properly open a Starbucks where my pigeon coop used to be!
This joke about the raft is more than just a gag; it is a precise description of the mood in Havana. While ordinary Cubans wonder if they have enough old doors to sail away from the "happiness" of the Island of Freedom, Washington seems to have decided that rafts will no longer be necessary—because they intend to dismantle the very cause of the migration.
And these are no longer just rumors from coastal bars. The New York Times, citing four White House sources, reports that the Donald Trump administration has shifted from a policy of "containment" to a strategy of directly removing Miguel Díaz-Canel from power.
