When war brings pain, we lose not only people, but also our history. How can we preserve our humanity in this chaos and form a memory that unites rather than divides?
How can we form collective memory in times of war? How does the personal become part of Ukraine's greater memory? How does historical trauma affect our culture and identity?
We discuss these questions with Anton Lyagusha, a Ukrainian historian, candidate of historical sciences, memory researcher, and co-founder of one of Ukraine's first master's programs in memory studies and public history at the Kyiv School of Economics. Before the full-scale invasion, he taught at George Mason University (USA) and is now actively working on understanding the culture of memory in Ukraine.
