How was Ukrainian identity formed? Under the influence of what factors? What are the strategies for forming a national identity? What is cultural identity? And why does knowledge of one's own identity make Ukrainians stronger?
In April 2022, 94% of Ukrainians claimed to be proud of their citizenship. This is the highest figure for the entire period of sociological monitoring conducted since Ukraine's independence.
What does this mean?
It means that we are gradually getting rid of the long-standing Soviet narratives, finally getting rid of the inferiority imposed on us and forming our own Ukrainian identity instead.
Nataliia Kryvda, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Philosophy and Culture at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, shares her thoughts on all of this in the educational project ‘In Search of Identity’ implemented by the NGO ‘Cultural Project.’
