On the first day of that undeclared war, the USSR dropped 800 nuclear bombs on Europe! And the bombers of the US Strategic Air Command dropped 1500. Within a day, Moscow ran out of bombs, but the war continued, and the Soviet Army and its allies in the socialist bloc launched a ground operation....
Day after day, hundreds of bombs fell. Within a week, Moscow was destroyed and overthrown. NATO had won the war.
I can see the reader's eyes going to their foreheads! Of course, none of this really happened. According to the Canadian historian Timothy Sale, such a staff game was played in 1955 at the headquarters of NATO's Allied Command in Europe.
