Since the beginning of the year, OpenAI has unveiled an ambitious initiative called Stargate, a groundbreaking $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. Why, why such a huge investment? Who are its beneficiaries and what is its rationale?
The Stargate project, a joint venture led by OpenAI and SoftBank, will deploy its initial $100 billion immediately, with the remaining $400 billion planned over the next four years.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called Stargate “the most important project of this era.”
Do you think this is an investment in entertainment, funny and beautiful pictures created by artificial intelligence, and the deceptive virtual “reality” we are all used to?
Or perhaps it's an investment in Elon Musk's ambitious and amusing projects, such as the colonization of Mars?
In reality, AI entertainment and shows for the average person, even future cities on Mars, are just the small tip of a huge iceberg!
But the world's first data center on the Moon is ready to launch next month. Why on the Moon?
The main idea behind this solution is to provide ultra-reliable data storage.
The lunar environment offers unique advantages: isolation from Earthly risks and extremely stable conditions.
Natural disasters, cyberattacks, and most importantly, armed conflicts will not affect the data center on the Earth's natural satellite. And lunar regolith will protect equipment from radiation (!) and extreme temperatures, creating ideal conditions for long-term storage.
Such unprecedented US investment in data centers is a necessity associated with the creation and improvement of high military technologies.
This monumental project, which is supported by key partners from SoftBank, Oracle, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and others, is designed to redefine the landscape of artificial intelligence infrastructure, providing significant economic and strategic benefits.
Tymur Marufiy, HR manager and computer technology specialist, told Hromada about this in an interview.
