The 20th century included two world wars, two revolutions, several attempts to declare and defend one's independence, the Holodomor, the Holocaust, Chernobyl. This is the century-old history of the Ukrainian search for its own independence, which continues to this day.
Why did the current war start? Why was it obvious and why did we not notice the signs of its beginning? Why were we destroyed and how did we survive? What should we do with the Soviet heritage? And can history be rewritten?
Answers to these important questions Vitaly Skalskyi, historian, Doctor of Sciences, director of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Archival Affairs and Documentary Studies, editor of the "Historical Truth" website, lecturer at the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", researcher of the history of the 19th and 20th centuries during the panel discussion discussions "How did we end up here? Highways and pitfalls of Ukrainian history of the 20th century", which took place on the YouTube channel of the educational project "In Search of Identity".
The historian impressed with new meanings. The most important of them - the history of Ukraine in the 20th century should be seen as the war of Ukrainians for independence and this period should be called the "hundred-year war for independence".
