The Paradox of Modern Geopolitics In the heat of a firefight, sworn enemies find themselves hiding behind the very same barrel of oil. It is an absurd situation where both sides of a conflict depend on the exact same resource while simultaneously attempting to delegitimize one another.
Today, this scene is unfolding across the vast map of the Middle East. The war involving Iran has ceased to be a local threat, transforming into a powerful lever of pressure on the global economy.
The U.S. is reportedly considering the possibility of easing oil sanctions against Russia. This issue surfaced following a phone call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, triggered by instability in global energy markets and rising oil prices.
In contrast, the EU has urged the U.S. to strictly adhere to the G7 price cap on Russian oil. Brussels believes that any softening of sanctions could boost Russia’s revenues and strengthen its capacity to continue the war against Ukraine.
However, according to the White House, there are currently no official announcements regarding the lifting of American sanctions against the oil sectors of Russia or other countries.
While world capitals exchange sanctions and arrest warrants, reality is dictated by energy price charts.
The global press is debating the true effectiveness of "international search warrants" and sanctions tools when all parties are literally sitting on a "powder barrel" made of hydrocarbons.
