In the summer of 2022, French physicist and astronomer Etienne Klein decided to play a prank. He posted a photo of the Spanish sausage Chorizo and called it a photo of the closest star to Earth, Proxima Centauri, which was allegedly taken by the James Webb telescope. To add realism, the scientist said in his tweet that he was “impressed by the level of detail.”

Only later, after his followers shared their impressions of another telescope masterpiece, the Frenchman revealed the true nature of the photo. As Klein himself noted, the purpose of such a performance is “to encourage people not to be influenced by people in positions of power and beautiful photos that can be found on the Internet.

 

This fully applies to the information war that has unfolded before our eyes.
