The Kharkiv Regional Palace of Children and Youth Creativity, which has trained hundreds of thousands of pupils over the nearly 90 years of its existence, many of whom have become famous performers, stage artists, and scientists, may cease to operate.
The regional authorities intend to merge one of Ukraine's largest out-of-school educational institutions with the regional station for young tourists. A letter requesting that this issue be raised at the next session of the regional council was sent from the deputy head of the KhOVA, Yevhen Ivanov, to the head of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Tetiana Yegorova-Lutsenko. This initiative of the official looks rather strange, given that he is not a specialized deputy in the field of education in the Kharkiv Regional Council, but is responsible for industry, land issues, and regional policy.
The authorities' intention to close the regional Palace of Children and Youth Creativity caused a loud public outcry among Kharkiv residents. What was most shocking was that the authorities were trying to bring this issue to the session in a covert manner. Without any conversation with the staff, without any justification, without any explanation of what is happening. It is simply to confront employees and the public with a fact that has already happened. This situation outraged parents, whose children are once again being deprived of creative activities in the circles and studios of the
Palace of Children and Youth Creativity. The parents wrote a letter to First Lady Olena Zelenska and addressed the media. The scandal is gaining momentum. What is happening around the Kharkiv Regional Palace of Children and Youth Creativity? Gromada investigated.
