For eight decades, we have called this bombing a war crime — perhaps the most terrible of all committed in World War II, if you don’t take into account the Holocaust.
This anniversary causes a flurry of emotions.
And, oddly enough, it once again exposes the arguments not only “against” the mission of American Colonel Paul Tibbets, who dropped the “Baby” from the B-29 Enola Gay over Japan on an August morning.
No sane person could have applauded the dropping of the first bomb, let alone the second, which destroyed Nagasaki on August 9.
But your columnist, leafing through the world press, finds various arguments on August 8...
