The Taras Shevchenko National Prize Committee has announced the list of nominees for the 2025 literature prize who have made it to the second round of the competition. And you unwittingly note that the novels with an extremely high concentration of experience feature the voices of two generations: grandchildren and grandfathers.

As André Morois said, literature is like love: we are surprised by someone else's choice. But we are looking at a case where the jury's choice does not surprise us.

 

Almost all of the writers who passed the first round of the competition are represented by novels intuitively imbued with the eternal theme of life and death, hostility and love, and complex personal choices.

 

Of course, I would like to see examples of contemporary Ukrainian military prose in the Shevchenko Prize competition. But its time has probably not yet come...
