For five seconds at 12:33 p.m. last Monday, 15 gigawatts (GW) of electricity suddenly disappeared from the system in Spain. To understand the scale of the problem, it should be noted that the installed capacity of the five nuclear power plants in Spain is 7.4 GW.
And while your columnist is reading the foreign press, no one can name the cause of the strange blackout.
Government sources explain that it amounted to 60% of the electricity consumed in the country at the time. This Monday, just five seconds was enough to cause chaos. The system collapsed, but the cause remains a mystery.
Blackout = dark times.
One can't help but think: no one can explain the dark times. The best minds of mankind are pondering why democracy is weakening and dictatorial regimes are growing stronger? How is it that using deocratic mechanisms criminals and fascists come to power, and the international laws established after the bloody Second World War are violated by new generations of political blabbermouths and populists?
And there is no control over them!
